Artist Bio

Liam Andrews, (1913-1996) was a West Belfast artist, Gaeilgeoir, singer, raconteur and Irish teacher. He was raised by his grandparents as a Presbyterian in Springfield village. He left school at 14, but later studied part-time at Belfast College of Art, and began to read widely. In his early twenties he moved to the Falls Road, where he leant Irish and converted to Catholicism. He exhibited alongside artists such as Gerard Dillon, Dan O'Neill and George Campbell. He specialised in rural landscapes and Belfast urban scenes, and made many paintings of travellers, from whom he also collected songs.
