Artist Bio

Kenneth Hall (1913-1946) was a Surrey born artist and co-founder of The White Stag Group, which he formed with fellow artist and friend Basil Rakoczi. He was educated at Lancing College before becoming acquainted with Lucy Wertheim, who took an interest in his work and put him on show at her gallery in Mayfair, and Rakoczi who he began travelling with. The two moved to Dublin to avoid the conflict of WWII where they set up The White Stag Group, a movement which encouraged the exploration of modernism and the use of aesthetics.

The Group held their first exhibition in 1940, which was a great success and critically acclaimed by the Irish Times. Despite this, Hall was suffering from depression which eventually led to his suicide in July 1946. A number of his paintings are displayed in UK public collections including in the National Museums Northern Ireland.
