Artist Bio
Georgina Moutray Kyle (1865-1950) was a watercolour painter and pastel artist who was born into an affluent family in Craigavon, Co. Down. She received her education at home from a governess and tutors and in 1883 was sent to Paris to study art, attending the Académie Colarossi.
After her return to Ireland she became an active member of the Belfast art scene, joining the Belfast Ramblers’ Sketching Club (1888) and the Belfast Art Society (later the Royal Ulster Academy), exhibiting with them from 1894 and holding various offices including the vice-presidency. In 2004 a retrospective of her work was held in the Naughton Gallery at Queen’s University, borrowing works from collections in the Ulster Museum, Belfast City Council, Armagh County Museum, North Down Borough Council, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, Belfast City Council, Royal Ulster Academy and private collectors.
