Richard Faulkner HRUA RHA

Richard Faulkner (1917-1988) was a landscape painter born in Belfast and educated at the Belfast College of Art. Faulkner’s preferred medium was watercolour although he did experiment with oil.

Faulkner’s first exhibition was held in the Royal Hibernian Academy in 1937 and then in the Ulster Academy of Arts in 1938. In order for Richard to paint the Antrim coast, he moved to Ballycastle in 1946. In 1950, Richard was appointed an academician of the Royal Ulster Academy having showed ‘Achill Head, Co Mayo’ and ‘On the River Dun, Cushendun’.

A tribute was paid to Richard in the RUA when he died in 1988.
