Artist Bio

June Marshall was born in Scotland in 1953. She started her art career at 14 when commissioned to paint fishing boats for a local craft shop; in 1971 she went to Robert Gordon’s University of Aberdeen/Gray’s School of Art where she studied for four years covering many media including oils, watercolours, oil pastels, acrylics, sketching, figure-drawing, jewellery-making, print-making, textiles, calligraphy and graphics. June graduated in 1975 with a B.A . (Bachelor of Arts) degree. June has practised art now for 52 years, having exhibitions around Northern Ireland such as St Patrick’s Trian and Saint Patrick Centre in Downpatrick and An Cuan in Rostrevor. She worked with Dungannon Development Association as an artist, then with antique dealers and James Stewart of Armagh Clock Manufacturers ,designing and painting clock dials and also worked with Craigavon Hospital doing calligraphy for the obstetrics department to create visual personalised memorials in a book of remembrance. She has worked as a freelance artist painting commissioned portraits of people and animals and people’s homes in many media, and calligraphic pictures. She also produced adverts for newspapers and cartoons and did the artwork for Dungannon Development’s Open Day. June also taught as a Part-Time Art Lecturer around the province in various colleges such as Armagh College (now, Southern Regional College) and East Tyrone College (now South-West College) and Parkanaur College and with the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association). Now that she is retired, June enjoys painting all kinds of Fine Art in all kinds of media from scenes of lighthouses in Ireland to portraits and abstracts.
