John Kindness

John Kindness is a well-known Irish artist who was born in Belfast in 1951 and graduated from Belfast College of Art with a degree in Fine Art in 1974. He is a sculptor, painter and multi-media artist, best recognised for being the maker of the Big Fish (1999) at Donegall Quay, Belfast. After graduating, Kindness first gained employment as a graphic designer and then became involved with a group of satirical cartoonists, publishing a number of comic strips with The People's Comic, an experience which has influenced many of his later works.

He has exhibited at the Foundling Museum in London, the Ulster Museum, Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin, Art in General in New York and the Third Eye Centre in Glasgow. Aside from Big Fish, he has created several pieces for public spaces such as Waterfall of Souvenirs at the Ulsterbus Station in Glengall St, Belfast (1991).
