Felim Egan

Felim Egan was born in Ireland in 1952 and is known for his abstract works, created through applying thin layers of acrylic mixed with powdered stone. He studied at the Slade School of Art in London and at the British School in Rome on a scholarship from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. Though his work is often described as abstract, it does take influence from landscape scenes around his home in Sandymount Strand, Dublin.
A member of Aosdána, Egan has held numerous major exhibitions including at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin (1996) and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (1999), among many others. He was presented with the UNESCO prize in Paris (1993) and the Premiere Prize at Cagnes-sur-Mer (1995). The artist was also chosen to represent Ireland at the Biennale de Paris (1981) and at the São Paulo Art Biennial (1985).
