Diarmuid Larkin

Diarmuid Larkin (1918-1989) was a landscape painter and an educator who was born in Dublin. He studied at the National College of Art (1941) and after exhibiting at the RHA (1942), was awarded a scholarship from the Spanish Government. However, Larkin was really interested in art education and so began teaching full-time in 1953 in Ballinasloe Vocational School. He worked in Mullingar Vocational School and Dun Laoghaire Technical College, developing a special art course over a number of years which led to the establishment of the Dun Laoghaire School of Art.

He wrote a book entitled Art Learning and Teaching: A Seven Year Manual for the Primary/Elementary Teacher, continuing his career in education whilst also enjoying success as an artist. He exhibited at the Aisling Galleries in New York, the Robinson Gallery in Dublin and had several pieces shown with the Royal Hibernian Academy.
