David Gordon Hughes
Artist Bio
David Gordon Hughes was born and educated in Belfast. Although Hughes received no formal artistic training, he was inspired by modernist greats such as Vincent van Gogh and Jack Butler Yeats which contributed to his self-teaching of artistic technique. For Hughes, the subject and composition of his paintings are secondary to the importance of mood, ambience, texture, and colour. By layering paint atop gold leaf, Hughes achieves a particular vibrancy and richness to his colour palette. He has exhibited widely in Ireland and the USA.
