Cecil Maguire RUA

Born in Armagh in 1930, Cecil Maguire graduated from Queens University, Belfast in 1951 and his subjects range from landscapes to figure painting. He began teaching English at Lurgan College, painting in his spare time, but retired in 1981 to focus on his artistry.
Maguire began exhibiting with the Royal Ulster Academy in 1971, becoming a member in 1974, and has also shown work with the Kenny Gallery in Galway, the Oriel Gallery in Dublin and the Bell Gallery in Belfast.
He has been presented with several awards including the Silver Medal twice (1964, 1967) and the Gold Medal (1974) from the RUA and the Conor Prize (1968).
