Anthony Klitz

Anthony Klitz (1917–2000) was born in Southport and specialised in painting impressionist style cityscapes, particularly in London. He studied first at Bishop Woodsworth’s School in Salisbury and then the Cheltenham Art College (1936-1939), whilst also training to be an architect. Klitz served in the military before moving to London in 1950 where, alongside Australian artist Hayward Veal, he began exhibiting his art work.
His paintings of London are praised for how they capture the city’s hazy lighting which Norman Collins described as ‘the secret of so much of London’s grace.’ Later in his life he moved to Ireland where he exhibited several times at the Davis Gallery in Dublin.
