Andre Dunoyer De Segonzac

André Dunoyer de Segonzac (1884-1974) was a French painter and etcher, born in Boussy Saint Antoine. Though his parents hoped he would take up a career with the military, they allowed him to pursue his interest in drawing which saw him enrol at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, the Académie Colarossi and the progressive Académie de La Palette. He also spent some time in military service and was drafted during World War I where he earned the Croix de Guerre. Taking influence from his time in the military, André produced a number of war drawings and took up etching so he could illustrate Wooden Crosses by Roland Dorgelès.
Along with creating numerous etchings, the artist painted regularly, including with the Salon des Indépendants and the Salon d’Automne. De Segonzac was awarded First Prize at the 1933 Pittsburgh International and the main prize for painting at the 1934 Venice Biennale.
